Dr. Darcy Tannehill was recently appointed the Vice President for Online and Off-Campus Programs, a new executive position created to improve the online and off-campus aspects of Robert Morris University. Tannehill began her new job at Robert Morris on March 15.
Students look to benefit as the federal government takes over loan program. The government will become the direct lender to the student. Prior to this new legislation, students and parents borrowed from federal loan programs through the Federal Family Education Loan (FFEL).
Robert Morris University's School of Education and Social Sciences (SESS) has partnered with the Regional Research and Innovations in Simulation Education (RISE) Center on campus to teach a class through the use of simulators. The simulators are normally used by student in the nursing program, but are currently being used by nine students for the master's degree course EDUC6540 Assessment and Evaluation Individual Instruction.
Robert Morris University is about to undergo a massive self-study, and the 105 members of the committee that will complete the study need input from the university community. The 105 students, faculty, staff and administrators involved in the study are working to earn re-accreditation with Middle States Commission on Higher Education (MSCHE), which is the major academic accrediting body for the mid-Atlantic region.
In the International Suite in Sewall Center on April 6, Francis Burnside hosted "Thinking in Circles," an event celebrating Navajo tradition. The chairs in the room were arranged in two rows of circles. An opening was left on the east side of the circle as a tradition in the Dine culture.

Young lawyers Grant Hackley, Esq. of Pietragallo, Gordon, Alfano Bosick and Raspanti, LLP, and John Whipkey of Thomson Rhodes and Cowie came to Robert Morris University to speak with interested students about landlord tenant laws. Hackley and Whipkey are also part of the Allegheny County Bar Association and decided to share their wealth of knowledge about tenant laws with the Robert Morris community before students signed off-campus leases.
The donations contributed to the class gift for the graduating class of 2010, along with all other donations, have been going toward the construction and general maintenance of the Memorial Garden since 2008. While walking behind Rogal Chapel, one would find the beginnings of the Memorial Garden that was made in order to commemorate members of the Robert Morris University community who are no longer able to be here.
In recent years Robert Morris University has been host to political figures such as Bill Clinton and John McCain as they campaigned across the country. In a new twist, Robert Morris will host five Senatorial hopefuls that have been busy campaigning for the Primaries in April.
Robert Morris University will host its 2010 graduation ceremonies at the Sewall Center in May. There will be two separate commencement ceremonies, one for graduate students and a second for undergraduate students. This is the first year that Robert Morris is hosting split ceremonies.
On March 26, the members of the international office, along with several international students, hosted an international dinner in the food court with more than 260 guests present. The program was featured dishes from the international students' home countries, prepared by the students, and given to the attendees of the event to enjoy.
On March 31, Robert Morris University hosted its first Passover Seder, a traditional Jewish dinner, in the Rogal Chapel. Paul Spradley, the assistant director of Student Life for multicultural affairs, recently created a new diversity club on campus called Hillel, which hosted the Seder.
For the first time this coming summer, a trip to Ireland for alumni, with James Vincent, an associate professor of English studies and Communications Skills at Robert Morris University, as the tour guide. The trip, which will take place from May 17 to May 25, has been planned for eight months by Vincent and Jay Carson, the vice president for institutional advancement and the trip coordinator.
The 2010 Robert Morris University All-Sports Banquet will be held on Sunday, April 25 at 5 p.m. in the Sewall Center Arena. This will be the 16th annual hallmark event of the Robert Morris University athletic season, and will be hosted by the Department of Athletics.
