Nose to the grindstone? Studying for hours on end? Finals week can be the single most stressful time in a college student's career, which is why the Student Program Board (SPB) would like to lift the stress with a few days of relaxing fun beforehand.

Winterfest, hosted by SPB, will be held Thursday, Dec. 4 through Saturday, Dec. 6.

"The whole idea is to just be able to relax a little before finals week," said SPB President Erin Neely.

The festivities will kick off Thursday as the SPB teams up with the Black Student Union (BSU) for a game show night. Hosted by Paul Spradley, assistant director of Student Life for multicultural affairs, the quiz show will be held in the food court from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. There will be prizes for the winning teams, which will be put together by the university's resident assistants. The prizes include a movie gift basket that will contain movie posters, boxes of candy, etc.

On Friday evening at 8 p.m., students should head to Winterfest again. This time to sit back, get comfortable, and watch Christopher Nolan's hit movie, "The Dark Knight." The film will be shown in the food court, instead of the usual movie-viewing place of Romo's Café.

The main events of Winterfest will take place on Saturday, in the food court from 11:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. SPB has arranged activities to come and go throughout the time period that are sure to not only relax students before finals, but also prepare them for the upcoming holiday season.

The opportunity to create a Build-A-Bear will last the entire time, but students should head down as early as possible to take part, as the 200 bears available go fast each year.

Apart from creating stuffed animals, there will be other attractions as well. Fortunes can be told from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. by a tarot card reader. At the same time, students can create their own fashionable bead jewelry at the Bead-It necklace booth.

To accentuate a hand-made beaded necklace, a balloon hat is always in style. The balloon artist will be available from 12:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. Also attending Winterfest will be a caricature artist from 1:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.

On Saturday, RMU will also be host to a number of other events outside of Winterfest that students have the opportunity to participate in.

The RMU women's basketball team kicks off the evening of sports events at 4:30 p.m. in the Sewell Center. The Men's basketball team will follow up at 7:00 p.m. with an NEC game against Long Island University.

If basketball isn't enough to pull out the holiday spirit, the RMU Concert Choir will have their Holiday Concert on Sunday, Dec. 7, at 7:00 p.m. in Massey Theater.

All interested students should head to the festivities, take a load off from a grueling pre-finals study session, and relax for a while. Winterfest has made its way to RMU.
