10 minutes with The Science Fiction Idols
Kaleigh Rectenwald
Issue date: 1/12/09 Section: Features
If you want "lol, ya, gotta, prob, hangin', 'coz, etc." to appear in print, you have to let Renee and me (Max) know. Some of it needs to be changed (e.g. 'coz is 'cause, I'd say prob is probably, lol is LOL). Regardless, AP style and mechanics should still be followed. Anyway, this is your section, and I don't feel comfortable making these edits/decisions because you may want it to read this way. Let us know what's up.
A combination of Rocky Horror Picture show meets chior boys, The Science Fiction Idols are rocking out the Pittburgh music scene in a whole new way. Ragged out in pure 70's glitter The Science Fictions Idols are breathing life back into the scene. I recently got the chance to sit down with Bobby Lamonde.
KR: What is your band name and where did it come from?
BL: A guy threatening to jump off the roof of the Oakland McDonald's was screaming that he was an idol of science fiction. I always loved Science Fiction from Rocky Horror, so I jumped on this opportunity. LOL (no pun intended)!
KR: What are the band members names?
BL: Bobby LaMonde, Jeff St. Louie, Dwight Fry and Robby Dudt.
KR: How and where did you meet?
BL: We just knew each other from hangin' around the local scene.
KR: What made you decide to start a band?
BL: I loved being an altar boy as a kid. Then I discovered the Stones, so I combined the two.
KR: What was your first show like?
BL: It's hard to remember but pretty good. Yeah, just pretty good.
KR: What are practices like?
BL: Uneventful. We really don't practice too much these days due to everybody's side projects. Whoopee!
KR: In the band who is the leader, who is the peace keeper, etc? What roles do you each play in the band?
BL: I am, but nobody gives a [explitive] what I say, so it doesn't really matter.
KR: How well do you guys communicate as a group, and what effects does this have on the band?
BL: We try not to commuicate at all if ever. Seriously.
KR: Who are your heroes and biggest influences?
