"The RMU band and cheerleaders are doing fundraising at the athletic events on campus. And it's forthcoming, but we expect that some of our campus ministry groups will be involved in gathering donations," explained Keefer.

"Several student groups, including the RMU Band and our cheerleaders, have already begun collecting funds to go toward relief efforts. Money has been raised at several campus events," said Dell'Omo. "In addition, the women's soccer team will be selling t-shirts to raise money for earthquake relief."

Funds were also collected for Haiti at the recent Martin Luther King Day events, which included a play written by Paul Spradley, assistant director of student life for multicultural affairs.

"Some funds were collected at the Martin Luther King Jr. Day events that were held on campus," said Keefer.

Paul Spradley put on a play on Jan. 18 and joined the parade to helping Haiti.

"It was written into the play to have the main character show support for the Haiti relief fund. And it was really a cue to have the members of the audience show their support," he said.

Spradley and the play received nearly $150 of donations.

"We raised $144 that night and all of that will go towards the relief efforts," informed Spradley.

The School of Nursing has joined the University's effort to help Haiti too.

"We are sending our funds to support those children still in Haiti," said Dr. Lynda Davidson, dean of the school of nursing and health services.

Davidson and Dr. Carl Ross, university professor of nursing, have been working together with the entire School of Nursing to send donations to Haiti in order to bring Haitian orphans to Pittsburgh.

"The School of Nursing is helping with this situation," she said. "Dr. Ross has a good understanding of the conditions in third world countries. He is really the head of this project," stated Davidson.

The number of children in need in Haiti is increasing by the day.
