Colonials Find Success at RMU Invitational

This past weekend the Robert Morris University men's and women's track and field teams hosted the Robert Morris Invitational at the Charles L. Sewall Center. The men earned 10 top-three finishes while the women took home 13 top-three standings against some pretty solid competition from Seton Hill, IUP, West Liberty College, Geneva, Youngstown State and Carnegie Mellon

On the men's side of things, junior Dewitt Hudson opened up the meet with a first-place finish in the 55-meter hurdles, finishing in a season-best time of 7.96. In the 500-meter dash Michael Robinson finished second with a time of 1:08.17 and freshman Ben Ingle placed first in the 1000-meter run, crossing the finish line in a time of 2:37.39. Teammate Arthur Leathers placed second in the same event with a time of 2:38.79. Junior Charles Gladman closed out RMU's top individual running performances by earning bronze in the 300-meter dash with a time of 36.94.

The men's 4x400 meter relay team placed third with a time of 3:40.65 and the distance medley team finished first with a time of 11:04.82.
Senior Michael Bowman represented the Colonials in the throwing events by earning silver in the weight throw with a heave of 16.09 meters.
RMU earned the first and second spot in the pole vault event with Anthony Trunzo earning gold with a season-best mark of 4.65 meters and Chris Spataro placing second with a height of 4.35 meters.

For the women, senior Emily Ingle earned the Colonials first top finish by earning gold in the one mile run with a time of 5:22.34. In the 1000 meter run, Kristie Domis placed second, crossing the finish line in a time of 3:12.58 and junior Aimee Ossler took first in the 300-meter dash, clocking in at 44.38. Sophomore Ashley Slifko closed out RMU's top individual running performances with a second-place finish in the 3000 meter run with a time of 11:42.41.

The RMU distance medley team of Abby Labe, Marie George, Gillian Stern and Debra Ostrander grabbed gold with a time of 13:47.27.

Senior Jovanna Kirkling placed first in the weight throw with a heave of 12.45 meters and Megan Green placed third with a mark of 11.79 meters. Gabriella Rinehart also earned a top finish in the throwing events by taking first in the shot put with a lob of 12.68 meters. Green earned another bronze finish with a mark of 11.77 in the shot put.

In the pole vault, senior Erica Schmidt took the top spot with a new RMU record of 3.43 meters, while freshman Sarah Lueck placed third with a mark of 3.05 meters.

The Colonials earned the second and third spot in the triple jump, with Aisha Chisholm securing second with a jump of 10.82 meters and Katrina Lamar taking third with a mark of 10.62 meters.

The Colonials return to action this Friday, January 29 through Saturday, January 30 when they travel to Bowling Green, Ohio to compete in the Bowling Green Invitational.
