The past two weeks have been pretty good to the Lady Colonials.

Not only did they help their coach, Sal Buscaglia, celebrate his 600th career victory with their win over Fairleigh Dickinson on Jan. 14, but their stellar play, which includes wins in six of their last seven games and a 12-7 overall record, has propelled them into a first-place tie with Sacred Heart in the NEC standings.
The Lady Colonials are well on pace to top last year's dismal 13-win performance, the first losing season under Buscaglia, and seem to be in contention for their first NEC regular season title since 2006-2007.
And it all starts with their admirable one-game-at-a-time approach.

Starting with the victory that gave their coach another notch on his belt, the Lady Colonial's win over Fairleigh Dickenson was a complete team effort. Robert Morris got scoring from everyone as total of 10 players contributed to the scoreboard in the dominating effort.

Junior Destiny Harrison recorded a career-best 12 points. Senior Angela Pace scored a game-high 19 points, shooting 9-16 from the field. She also had eight assists on the night. Freshman Vega Gimeno- Martinez added 14 points in the win with a career-best eight rebounds. Finally, sophomore Mary Durojaye earned her second career double-double as she recorded 11 points and 10 rebounds.

Despite coming off a big win for their coach, the Colonials were unable to hold off the Monmouth Hawks the following Saturday. The Colonials let a 13 point second half lead slip away. They lost 51-50 on the final possession of the game.

Durojaye, however, did put up a solid performance. She had team highs in both points and rebounds with 11 each, good for her second consecutive double-double. Senior Monica Jones had nine points in the loss, while Pace was held below double digits for the first time all season scoring just eight points.

But Pace's pace would not be held to single digit scoring for long. In the Colonials next game on Jan. 21 at FDU, she recorded 17 points and 13 rebounds, both game-highs, and also added six assists in the Colonials 69-44 victory. Junior Kristine Silaraja went 4-6 from the field for 11 points.
Including Pace and Silaraja, the Colonials got at least four points from nine players that night. They shot 44.4% (28-63), while holding the Knights to 25.4% (15-29).
The Colonials then stretched their winning streak to two games when they defeated Monmouth 62-45 this past Saturday. The team scored 22 points off of turnovers, while shooting 51.2 percent on the night. Pace and Durojaye were team-high point getters, scoring 12 apiece. Jones, Silaraja, and junior Bianca Hooten each scored nine points in the win.

The Colonials, now 12-7 (7-1), will return to the Sewall Center hardwood this Thursday at 5:00 p.m. to take on the Long Island Blackbirds, then again Saturday at 4:00 p.m. against St. Francis (N.Y.).
