So far, 2010 has not been kind to the Robert Morris University women's hockey team, as they have dropped their first six of the New Year.

After dropping two games to Ohio State University the previous weekend, the Colonials returned to action on Jan. 8 as they took on the University of Connecticut at Mellon Arena as part of the Pittsburgh College Hockey Showcase. The Colonials trailed 4-0 going into the last half of the third period when freshman Jamie Joslin netted the first goal of the game, and her third of the season, for the Colonials on a power play. With three minutes remaining in the game, Robert Morris pulled their goalie and went on the power play with less than a minute left to give the Colonials a six-on-four advantage. Being up two men gave the Colonials a big advantage, and with 20 seconds left in the game, sophomore Brianna Delaney was able to put the puck past the Huskies net minder to tally the final goal of the game. Despite scoring the final two goals of the game, as well as outshooting the Huskies 29-21, the Colonials were unable to obtain enough momentum to have a full comeback. Robert Morris goalies Daneca Butterfield and Kristen DiCiocco combined for a total of 17 saves.

The following day the Colonials took on the University of Connecticut with the hopes of avenging the previous nights' results. The team faced a similar fate as the night before however, this time being shut out by a score of 4-0. Both teams played to a scoreless first period, but the Huskies were able to break the stalemate as they notched the first goal at 4:38 of the second period. Connecticut's offense came to life in the third period, scoring the final three goals of the game, one of them coming on an empty net, after the Colonials pulled their goalie. Despite the score, freshman goalie Kristen DiCiocco finished the game with a career high 28 saves.

Within a week the Colonials were back in action, this time facing a familiar opponent in fellow CHA member Wayne State University. The Colonials and Warriors battled to a scoreless tie up until the middle of the third period when Wayne State was finally able to fire the puck past RMU's net minder Kristen DiCiocco to tally the only goal of the game. With a little over a minute left in the game, the Colonials pulled their goalie with the hope of scoring to tie the game, however the attempt was unsuccessful and the team left the ice being shut out for a second straight game. Despite the loss, Coach Nate Handrahan was proud of the team's effort and the fact that they gave themselves a chance to win.
