On Feb. 20, the Robert Morris University women's ice hockey walked away with an exciting win over Niagara as the end of the regular season began to peak its way over the horizon. But before the CHA playoffs begin after next weekend's series with Wayne State, the girls can prepare themselves by taking a look back at their season and how they've gotten to this point.

Wins and losses have come and gone, each holding a lesson to be learned. Some wins have felt like losses because of errors and sloppy play that the team has desired to correct, while some losses have felt like wins, the girls valiant efforts and spirited play not reflecting in the final numbers of the scoreboard.

In the season opener Sept. 27, the Colonials swept the rug out from under Wilfrid-Laurier as RMU came out with a lot of confidence, drive, and passion. 2010 Patty Kazmaier award nominated Sara O'Malley shot and scored her first, as well as the team's first, goal of the season. Three other goals came from Chelsea Walkland, Dayna Newsom, and Kathleen McDonald to help the Colonials skate away with a win.

With back-to- back games on Oct. 2-3, the Colonials found themselves splitting the series with Minnesota-Duluth. But the following weekend's overtime loss to Boston University's began a four-game losing streak, a prelude to the struggles that would plaque the Colonial's for most of the season.

The Colonials were able to bounce back against Maine on Oct. 23 with a 3-1 win and stretched their winning streak to three games, including a thrilling 3-1 victory over No. 6 ranked Wisconsin. Their rematch with the Badgers, though, resulted in a heartbreaking 3-2 overtime loss, a game that would be the first of a stretch of six games the Colonials would go without a win.

Five losses and one tie later, including defeats from Niagara, Syracruse, and Rensselaer, the Colonials were able to interrupt their losing ways with a 3-1 win over Rensselaer on home ice. But a gauntlet of games featuring the likes of Mercyhurst, Ohio State, Connecticut, and Wayne State sent the Colonials spinning into a seven game losing streak.
